Make Room for a Taste of Little Italy: Take Out Edition

Category: Stories

As Little Italy safely and slowly reopens, we are always looking for new and creative ways to allow people to enjoy the neighborhood and experience some of the best restaurants in San Diego. The Taste of Little Italy is an experience that brings the community together and showcases the incredible eats throughout our charming neighborhood. This year, we have redesigned this highly-anticipated experience as “Taste of Little Italy: Take-Out Edition” which will bring the community a new curated prefix meal experience highlighting some of your favorite Little Italy establishments.

This year, instead of a one-night experience, this redesigned experience will be extended over a weeklong period from October 4th – 8th. Each night, six restaurants will be highlighted to create an elevated multi-course tasting menu. Attendees will reach culinary nirvana enjoying delicious meals from over 30 one-of-a kind restaurants including Ballast Point, Bencotto, Buon Appetito, Cloak and Petal, Frost Me Bakery and Café, and Monello.

In order to ensure proper social distancing, each night there will be a maximum of 300 tickets sold with ticketholders being given a time window to check in at the Piazza della Famiglia in Little Italy. Upon arrival, each guest will receive an insulated Taste of Little Italy: Take-Out Edition tote bag provided by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna so they can collect their meal from the restaurants. Once all items have been obtained, guests will have a delicious meal for one or two people that can be taken home or enjoyed at your favorite open-air park or space.

This culinary experience kicks-off on Sunday, October 4th with a vegetarian/vegan night featuring avocado toast from Parakeet Café, corn salad from Davanti Enoteca, and a 12oz can and branded koozie from Ballast Point.  Day 2 makes Mondays a little brighter featuring short rib rigatoni from Farmer’s Table, a half-pint of gelato from Bobboi, and a sangria flight from M Winehouse. Day 3 is keeping the incredible eats flowing with a pizza slice from Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, oven-baked maccheroni in a creamy mushroom and truffle sauce from Bencotto, and a 16oz German pilsner from Mikkeller Brewing. Day 4 is there to help you through the week with white truffle pasta from Semola, kale salad from Nolita Hall, and fire roasted lemon and garlic half-chicken from Craft & Commerce. Day 5 is your last chance to take advantage of these incredible eats with tuna poke from Cloak & Petal, chocolate-covered cannoli from Caffe Italia, and a limited-edition pint glass and voucher for a tasting flight or pint to use at a later time from Bolt Brewery. Plus, each night comes with a 330ml S.Pellegrino Essenza and 330ml Acqua Panna.

To view the entire menu and purchase tickets, click here. Tickets can be purchased online and are priced at $50 for a meal for 1 and $80 for meal for 2, plus applicable service fees by the ticketing platform.

In the past, all net proceeds supported the Little Italy Association’s neighborhood improvement projects. 25% from every ticket sold will go towards the restaurants to provide some financial relief from the struggles and hardships they suffered over the last few months due to COVID-19.
