ArtWalk
2002 will kickoff Saturday April 27 and continue through Sunday,
April 28, from noon to 6 p.m. daily. The 18th ArtWalk
is set exclusively in the charming Little Italy neighborhood
of Downtown San Diego. The event is free and open to the public.
Highlights of ArtWalk include hundreds of emerging and established
artists, musical performances and Little Italy restaurants,
bars, and shops that will offer flavor to the expected 60,000
attendees of the event.
An array of diverse artists will participate in this year's
endeavor to enrich San Diego's art community, representing
a variety of mediums from traditional oil on canvas paintings
to the annual Refrigerator Art collection and mixed media
sculptures.

Of
the hundreds of artists involved in ArtWalk 2002, Tijuana
artist Norma Michel has been selected as the 2002 Featured
Visual Artist. Michel's paintings communicate reality
altered by imagination. The results are expressions
in color and form that provoke an interest and appreciation
of living moments: love, nostalgia, waiting, and life itself.
With thousands expected to attend ArtWalk again this year,
parking will be at a premium. For easier access, attendees
are being encouraged to take the Trolley.
If you have an interest to host an artist or list your business
in the map, please contact us at 619/615-1090. For additional

Commencing
March 2nd and running during the first Saturday of each month
for the remainder of 2002, (10 times), the Association will
be sponsoring a "Mercato Sabato" or Saturday Street Market.
The Mercato will be held in the heart of the business district,
on Date Street between India and Columbia Streets, and run
from 9am to 5pm. The purpose of the monthly Mercato
is to target residents in a five mile radius from Little Italy
to come to this street market for unique goods and services,
while

exposing the retailers of Little Italy to the Downtown community.
This is another important step to bring public activity to
the streets of Little Italy.
If you are interested in being a vendor at one of these Mercatos
or would like more information on the event, please call Frank
Busalacchi at the Little Italy Association Office at 619/233-3898.
