as
a tribute to the historic Little Italy and to the many immigrants
that created this great community. Little Italy today represents
one of Downtown San Diego's oldest continuous neighborhood
business districts. At one time, more than 6,000 families

With the decline of the tuna industry on the West Coast and

that goal.
We believe that
the changing of Hawthorne to "Little Italy Way" will pay tribute
to this historic, vibrant community of Downtown. It
will also be descriptive of the area as people are entering
the North Embarcadero and San Diego waterfront. We anticipate
the name change to occur by May of this year.
