citrisORANGE YOU GLAD THEY’RE HERE?
The Certified Farmers’ Market at the Mercato delivers your vitamin C in style with more than a dozen varieties of citrus from local family farmers like Barry Koral, Bob and Mary Polito and Peter and Kayne Schaner. On a warm Saturday morning there’s nothing like an icy fresh squeezed Blood Orange, Ruby Grapefruit or Tangerine juice from Polito Family Farms. Or grab a sweet lemon and peel and eat: lemonade in the raw!

Woman with Basil Tops GET SAUCED
Fresh vegetables, chicken and fish deserve the finest sauces and there are plenty to choose from at the Mercato. From Basiltops’ many varieties of pesto, made from their own homegrown basil, to marinara from Buon Appetito, and Lemon Alfredo and more from Pappardelles, we’ve got your pasta covered. Want a little more heat? Check out Burning Sensations’ and Chi Cuisine’s sauces for tastes of Thailand, India or South America that only San Diegans provide.

Berries

IT’S A BERRY GOOD DAY
This time of year, the Mercato is full of berries. Throw handfuls of blueberries on your organic granola from Urban Chef. Slice fresh, juicy strawberries on top of a lemon tart from Lisko Imports! Top a flourless chocolate cake from Parker Pastry with fresh raspberries; crush some more berries with a little orange juice and top it off. Or just enjoy a carton of blackberries or huckleberries for lunch, just as they are.

MERINGUES AND MERENGUE
We’ve got it all at the Mercato. You can grab a French meringue from Chef Michel at Patisserie Soleil for dessert, and dance a merengue as you enjoy the Caribbean sounds of Manny Cepeda this Saturday July 12. Next week, we’ll have tango tunes by David de Alva along with tangerines by our local growers.
